Layer It Up

The key for winter, and a New York winter at that, is layering. I started with this perfect and cozy ivory sweater over a worn-in denim shirt. It's a bit more relaxed than usual preppy combination. I switched it up once more by wearing liquid leggings (which I only suggest with longer tops...leggings do not equal pants). And finally, I threw everybody for a loop with socks and platform sandals. Sock are back on the runways again and having a major moment. These combinations add a fun element to even the simplest outfit. Shop the links above to get the look!

The Letterman

I have this knack for finding hidden gems in the back of your mom’s, grandma’s, even your boyfriend’s closet. This letterman jacket was “borrowed” from my beau’s closet, and let’s just say it may be a lengthy borrow. Leather, oversized, and a sporty boyish charm... Done deal! I like to keep things really classic when I rock this jacket so I can just let it speak for itself. Here, a simple white tee and skinnies with a platform oxford give it that old school feel with a little smirk of fashion.

With trends and styles constantly evolving, there are a few key pieces I fall back on that never seem to let me down: thick and cozy sweaters, black skinnies, and Converse. Put together or sprinkled in with other pieces "of the moment", these classics have tested time and can be styled in so many different ways. For this post, I wore them all together in a very straight forward but stylish way and then a bit more normcore with distressed/relaxed skinnies, Birks, and a vintage cocoon jacket. No matter which way you go, these are some closet staples that you definitely need!

Born and raised in the nineties, I have this thing for anything vintage from the era. There's some type of rule that if you lived when the the trend first began, you're not supposed to wear it when it returns. But I say to hell with it. Wear what you want. This whole mom jean revival. Totally in. Converse, Keds, and the like. In again. So when I spotted this tee on the Living Doll site, it was a match made in heaven. Like my vibe smack right on the front of a shirt. Put the three pieces together, throw me on a fire escape with some good music, and it's like a scene of Friends or somethin'.

Overall Update

Many people have a love/hate relationship with overalls; but for me, it's all L.O.V.E.  A classic revival that continues to evolve each time it creeps back and throughout the time it sticks around. If you are an a fan, mix up your typical overall look by wearing a sweater on top! A little cropped and boxy is best so you get just that peek of the bib. A bit of a roll on the bottom, white socks, and menswear inspired booties, give you a fun, streetstyle look!

Like I spoke to in my last post, I've been challenging myself to create outfits starting with one key piece. Today's was this clean and simple buttondown by Living Doll LA. I typically would reach for my black highwaisted skinnies to pair it with, but I decided to switch things up and grabbed my leather shorts. Have you ever had a piece of jewelry that you absolutely love but have no clue what you would actually wear it with? Rings have always been my favorite, so when I find a gorgeous vintage one like above, I allow it to inspire me. The turquoise and western vibe of this piece immediately drew me to a fringe skirt. Paired with a snake skin clutch, cozy sweater, and pointy mule, I complete the look just from that single little ring! I have completely fell in love with the Calvin Klein Underwear revival of the 90s. Classic boyish waistband has you feeling like Kate Moss circa 1992. My style has a tendency to fall back to the years of my childhood, aka the 90s, so it's awesome that CK has brought it back with flying colors. I love incorporating my calvins with some vintage highwaisted jeans for a fun look out or casually with a backless tank, all grey, neutral, sexy.

Raise your hand if your loungewear uniform involves only wearing the largest sorority tshirt in your drawer paired with the lumpiest sweatpants at the bottom. Yep, that's what I thought. But seriously, ME TOO. But seriously again, I'm here to tell you that you can actually look cute without having to sacrifice the oversized and cozy goodness. By trading my sweats for super soft boyshorts and the tee for a still oversized but cool knit sweater, I go from looking slightly homeless to a bit more chic and sexy. Business Casual

Ever since Isabel Marant brought sweatpants "back", I've been wanting to incorporate them into my everyday wardrobe. With the recent revival of menswear and normcore, three's company to create my ideal look. By pairing an oversized but structured blazer and basic white tee with my favorite sweatpant/converse combo, I was able to create a perfect "business casual" look, if you will. The key is the keep it simple and tonal, juxtapose shapes to keep it from being too lumpy, and make sure your sweatpants have a nice cuff, too :) Check out some of my favorite options above to work sweats into your look outside the house.
