Free People Wrap Top / EDIT Denim / Steve Madden Shoes / Oliveve Clutch (similar) / Shahla Karimi Hoops / Vintage Glasses

Forever a fan of all things oversized, I've been loving that denim's trend has been anything but fitted. And the wider the better! Snug at the waist but extra large in the leg, I love these denim culottes by EDIT. I took the xl flare to it's roots with a full 70s inspired look + aviators to boot. Shop the links above for my look and the below for other oversized denim favs.

The bag: The Tassel Bag

Why I love it: I immediately fell in love with this bag because of it’s 70s influence with the saddle shape and tassel detail. #avintagevice Need I say more?

The outfit: Playing into that 70s vibe (my dad did wear a white tux on his wedding day) and adding a touch of Parisian influence, I decided to rock an all white suit. In easy lightweight cotton and linens, this suited look is one that is elevated but doesn’t leave me feeling stuffy. Stylist tip: By keeping the look neutral from head to toe, you elongate yourself (no matter how tall or short you really are) and let the tassels do the talking.

The location: We shot this look in my all time favorite neighborhood: the West Village. You haven’t been to New York until you’ve been to here. The ambience, the people, the stores, the cafes. My first summer interning in NY I spent 3 hours wandering in the WV with no map and it was maybe the best 3 hours of my life. And just about any outfit is perfect in the WV as long as it feels like you.

If I could sum this look up in three words I’d say: 70s, fresh, relaxed.

IMAGINE BY JOHN LENNON

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today... Aha-ah...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace... You, ..

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world... You, ..

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Ulla Johnson Blazer + Pant / Coclico Mule

In my personal opinion, there is nothing chicer than a woman in a suit. Whether you go sharp and taliored or light and loose, it's clean, put together, and effortless. I love a good white on white look and so this suit by Ulla Johnson was an instant fave. Oversized feel, no top, and a mule feels current, fresh, and springy. Fittingly enough, I ran into one of my favorite restaurants while shooting this look that had a special dedication to David Bowie. Worlds aligned as he was one of the first major musicians to rock the white suit in 70s. Just another great example of fashion's cyclical nature and how so many modern trends are rooted in vintage :)

Rodebjer Caftan and Tote (similar) / Splendid Espadrilles / Pared Sunnies

When heading on vacay, the throw-on-wherever-you-are dress is an absolute necessity for me. You can probably relate. Half of the time I pack all these outfits and end up wearing the same few things the whole time. Whether it’s a shirtdress, slipdress, or caftan, having a relaxing vacation includes being comfortable while you’re there. My current beach town essential is the caftan (in true oversized-lover form). This one in particular by favorite Rodebjer is perfect to toss on for a trip to the market or ending the day from the beach to the bar.  I paired mine with a neutral striped espadrille, woven tote, and Joy-inspired sunnies. 70s babe dreams forever. You know the deal --> links above, shop now, etc.

Kiliwatch Paris Vintage Jacket (similar) / Helmut Lang Top / SmithLab Scarf / A Gold E Denim / Tibi Mule

Channeling my love for some 70s rock & roll vibes with this look. The skinny scarf made a comeback thanks to Chloe's FW15 show and it's been knocking on every fashion girl's door since. I'd been endlessly searching for the perfect, thin scarf that was quality made and not a million dollars. I finally found the one via Etsy shop, SmithLab. Quality silk, the perfect length and width, this scarf will last me a life time. I added it to this beautiful threadbare tunic, distressed (and super soft I might add) jeans, and a classic mule. It was freezing when taking these shots so the fur was necessary and also happened to be the perfect finishing touch to this 70s rock comeback look. Shop the links above to channel your inner Joan Jett.

Jill Stuart Dress (similar) / Whistles Coat / Raye Pumps / Verve Layering Rings

A touch of femininity managed to escape my typical tomboy style for this easy (somewhat 70s) inspired look. Whether it's the 70s or the 90s, I'm a sucker for velvet. This dress from Jill stuart throws back with crushed cranberry velvet, bell sleeves, and amazing cutout detail. Paired with a teddy jacket, bright suede pump, and mustard bag, the outfit get's a bit of a modern twist with just a taste of 70s flare.

Reformation Bodysuit / Vintage Cutoffs / Zara Flatforms (similar) / Outlette Necklace / Gorjana Necklace via Rocksbox

My new favorite piece in my closet? The Avalon bodysuit from Reformation! I discovered this bodysuit a while ago but second guessed buying it. Then, of course, it was sold out for months. Got the back in stock email and immediately ordered. Best decision I’ve made in a while! First: the color. The yummiest, burnt orange I’ve been totally digging lately and a perfect match for my darker features. The ribbed material and super tight fit combined with the laceup details amp up the sex appeal about 10 notches. The 70s vibe that results in these amazing combinations is right up my alley and perfect for pairing with dark cutoffs and chunky flatforms. Shop my look above and seriously put yourself on the waitlist for this one.

Graham & Spencer Top / Vintage Levi Cutoffs / Madewell "Fanny Pack" / Topshop Platforms (similar) / Outlette Necklace / Wishbone Necklace

Ever since I discovered some of my mom’s handknit sweaters from the 70s, the era has forever been present (visible or not) in my style and part of my personality. I love the carefree vibes of the flower child decade. Zero product, wavy hair, center parts, minimal makeup, floaty tops, and the highest platforms you can find. Easy and sexy, you can take the 70s full on or pared back. I reeled in the hippiness a bit in my look today by adding a pair of denim cutoffs to my sky-high platforms and balloon sleeve, embroidered top. Still highwaisted and Levi’s of course, the shorts nod to the 70s without taking it costumey. My favorite part of this outfit: the most amazing fanny pack. Tiny and perfect, this saddle brown belt with a little pouch big enough for your chapstick (#practical) finishes it off with just the right amount of leather. Shop the links above to add some 70s love into your life.

Mossimo Lace Top / Vintage Abercrombie Skirt (similar here, here and here) / See by Chloe Booties (similar) / Jules Smith Necklace via Rocksbox / Vintage Rings

There's something wonderfully refreshing about an all white, light, cotton outfit for summer. Easy and breezy, it keeps your look clean and keeps you cool. I took my all white in a slight 70s bohemian direction alla Isabel Marant. Adopting the off-the-shoulders that's everywhere lately and giving it a lace detail and bloused bottom immediately give off that perfect Jane Birkin vibe. Paired with an equally light cotton skirt (remember those Abercrombie days?), a perforated bootie, natural hair and skin, and you achieve a gorgeous summer look with a nod to the 70s. A Softer Side

Endless Rose Top / Blank NYC Overalls / Burton Platforms (similar) / Clo Intimo Bra / Vintage Watch / Gorjana Necklace and Wanderlust & Co Ring via Rocksbox/ Outlette, Handmade, and Vintage Rings

You may not have guessed that there’s a softer side to overalls, but I’m here to tell you there is! While sometimes my styling airs more towards a tomboy personality, there are flecks of femininity that I love to play up on occasion. Taking overalls and turning them into a surprisingly girly look is just the thing. By pairing this delicate “lacey” white top and sky high 70s platforms, a new element is brought to the overall: a sweeter side with a touch of vintage flair.  Shop the links above to bring a dash of girl to your overalls!

A New Flare

a vintage vice - emma sousa- 11.jpg

Ribbed Sleeveless Turtleneck / Long Sleeve Crop Top / Alexa Chung X AG Jeans / Tibi Mules / Handmade Square Ring / Outlette Rings

I immediately fell in love when I discovered these cropped flared jeans from Alexa Chung's collaboration with AG Jeans. An updated shape from the typical flare, these high-waisteds are definitely a new favorite for spring. I kept the look clean with what appears to be a black & white top but is actually a layered turtleneck and crop top! I chose structural mules finish things off, but these jeans would also be great with platforms or a classic pump. Shop my look above and try out the new flare.

Vintage Max Mara Blazer / American Apparel Crop Top / Vintage Suede Pants / See by Chloe Booties (similar) / Maria Black Ear Cuff / Jules Smith Choker / Vintage Chain

I've always had a love for the 70s. From the free-spirited hippie to rocker boho chic, the era continues to have a hold on me. Today's look is a bit Bianca Jagger with a dash of gigolo (chain included). The suiting feel, bootcut suede, and gold jewelry are a true ode to the 70s. BUT by keeping the color palette neutral, mixing textures like suede and linen, and throwing in a crop top for good measure, you elevate the look to a crisper, more modern feel.

Vintage Levi's Denim Jacket / Vintage Cotton Oxford / Patch Pocket Flares / Tibi Mules

The Canadian Tuxedo. Originating from the famous Bing Crosby, this trend has ebbed in and out of style in various shapes and silhouettes. From Bing, to Super Troopers, to Justin and Britney, it has had its fair share of ups and downs. I'm bringing it back around with a nod to the 70s and a taste of the 80s. Highwaisted, wide leg, patch pocket flare, cotton top, boxy jacket, pointy boot. The play on proportions and combination of decades elevates the look to a fresher, streetstyle chic. Shop by look above for your new TUX.
