J'aime la Vie

J'aime la vie. I love life. In honor of Paris Fashion Week, I found it fitting to highlight this French phrase that packs a punch. No matter what life swings at me, fashion always brings me back to being me. There's something about going out on a limb and pushing your style to the limits that puts a pep in your step.

This was one of my favorite looks I put together during NYFW: a sporty crop top, classic blazer, "mom" jeans, pop color shoes, and the J'aime la vie clutch. It was just the outfit that gave me that "I love life" fashion feel. It's a conglomeration of many different styles but results in a cool and fun streetstyle look. Check out the links above to shop the look and me jamming in this outfit HERE.

Snoopin' Around

Fay Snoopy Top (similar) / Vintage Trouser (similar) / Vintage Chanel Shoes (similar)/ Vintage Bag (similar) / Gorjana ring set

One thing I love about fashion is that it always keeps the imagination alive. I love how lately different designers have been really going out on a limb and pushing the limits. It's been Barbie and Spongebob at Moschino, race cars at Marc by Marc, and groceries at Chanel. I'm a firm believer in being a little goofy, and embracing the different. So naturally when I found this Fay Snoopy top at Buffalo Exchange in Chelsea, I had to have it.

By pairing Snoopy with these vintage cropped trousers I snagged at Goodwill for a whopping $7 and this vintage handbag at a garage sale for $2, I managed to turn a bit of a kooky top into a chic look (and without breaking the bank!) Just another great example of mixing vintage and modern for a polished, but fun, result. Check out the links above to shop the look and the designer pieces!

Falling for Fringe

Raquel Allegra Dress / Tibi Slingbacks / Gorjana, Ariel Gordon, Jennifer Zeuner, Vintage Rings

Ever since the Western revival via Chanel's Dallas show, I have been utterly obsessed with fringe. And I am LOVING how each designer/brand has brought its own interpretation to the trend. This Raquel Allegra piece is a perfect play on the classic tshirt dress. Wonderfully minimal and versatile with a pop of stringy goodness. I amped it up a bit by naturally pairing fringe with fringe. The thick fringe detailing on these structural Tibi heels is everything! Whether you take it in more of a western direction like I did HERE or a bit more minimal like above, you'll be swinging in the right direction ;)

Two Chainz and Counting

Vintage GAP Denim Top (similar) / Polo RL Shorts (similar) / Clo Intimo Bra / Alexander Wang Boots / Vintage Chains /  Gorjana, Elizabeth and James, Jennifer Zeuner, Vintage Rings

There's something about throwing on a bunch of chains that gets you feeling tough. I'm not always huge on jewelry but when I do wear it, I keep it really minimal or layer a lot of smaller pieces for a larger impact like above. I love to mix metals, too. Gold (always), rose gold, and silver together makes it multidimensional and the eye curious.

Some of the best jewelry pieces and closet essentials can be found at flea markets, thrift stores, and grandparents' closets. All of my chains are my grandpa's and grandma's, I scored my button down at the Brooklyn Flea Market for $10, and I made my shorts from boys jeans at Goodwill for $3.75. Talk about a deal breaker. If you're more of an onliner, Etsy is a vintage and secondhand haven. All of these bargains paired with a delicate bra and perfect black boots make for an downtown, "coolgirl" result.

Borrowed from the Boys

Theory Blazer / Rachel Pally Crop Top / Leifsdottir Pants (similar) / Grenson Loafers / Vintage Buxton Bag (similar) / Gorjana, Elizabeth and James, Jennifer Zeuner, and Vintage Rings

There's always some fun to be had with a menswear inspired look. A bit of quirky, whimsy, unexpected. The crop top, for example. In order to avoid looking too "borrowed from the boys", I threw in this Rachel Pally crop top to add some femininity and sex appeal to the outfit. Regardless of feeling boyish or sexy, I stepped out of the apartment feeling like a bit of a badass, wearing the pants.

On a shoe trend note, platform flats are all the rage for fall. The moment I spotted these Grenson loafers, I knew I had to have them. You can pair them with a blazer and printed pant like above, with a structured mini and comfy sweater, or with a boyfriend jean and slim tee. No matter which way you choose, you'll be stepping out ahead.

NYFW: Cut It Out

a-vintage-vice-emma-sousa07.jpg

Anzevino and Florence Top / Zara Pants / Vintage Chanel Pumps / Vintage Bag

The word "cutout" can sound scary at first. But good news, I managed to find a way to wear full-on cutouts and not look in the least bit skanky. An added bonus: my top and pants were a combined $35 #winning

These Zara pants have the most amazing detail. Completely crocheted with only a "shorts lining", the rest is open but you would never know! The placement of the cutout in the top is unexpectedly perfect, and I brought out the vintage Chanel pumps for added effect. I love how the whole outfit comes together without being overwhelming and still looking chic.

This was my day 4 outfit for New York Fashion Week. I can't wait to share the rest of them with you! For real time updates, don't forget to check out my Instagram (link on the side)!

White Suit Whip

Vintage MaxMara Blazer / Forever 21 Top / Addison Shorts / Zara Sandals / Fossil Watch / Vintage Bracelets

One of my favorite things about vintage and thrift is the ability to find clothes that are beautifully constructed out of the best fabrics (designer or not) at a fraction of the price. Whether I'm shopping new or old, the material and construction are some key decision makers for me. If it doesn't feel, fit, stretch the way you want then it's not worth it!

During my last venture to the Hamptons, I found this linen MaxMara blazer at Collette Consignment for $100! The linen is so soft, and I love the slouchiness of the fit. A timeless summer piece, this blazer takes me everywhere from this white suit getup to my favorite cutoffs. Summer isn't over yet so keep those whites, linens, and silkies nearby! And always remember, when in doubt, all white keeps you minimal, chic, and flawless.

Très Bien

CHRLDR Tee / JCrew Shorts (similar) / Sam Edelman Booties / Vintage RayBans

Très bien, et vous? This outfit sums up a few of my favorite essentials: a graphic tee, structured black short, leopard booties, and wayfarers (preferably vintage!) I hold these RayBans near and dear to my heart as they are my late grandfather's from the 1950s when RayBan first launched the infamous classics. I love the oversized shape and slight tilt that gives them a bit of differentiation from the modern design. Start with the Bans or any of the other essentials for a solid foundation to your wardrobe. Easy, breezy, and à la mode (without the ice cream).

A Little Up, A Little Down

H&M tee (similar) / SEA skirt (similar) / ZARA pumps/ Fossil watch (similar) / Vintage bracelets

I might be beating a dead horse, but I can never get enough of mixing up my style. I can go full tomboy and full girly, but my favorite place is somewhere in the middle. A little uptown-- pleated "school girlish" skirt and sexy, sky-high pointed pump paired with a little downtown-- oversized, graphic tee and heavy metal watch. The perfect middle ground. Try pairing one of your more casual tops with elevated bottoms or vice versa for a nice mix of girly/tomboy, uptown/downtown.

City Stomping

[gallery type="rectangular" ids="1625,1616,1620,1623,1622,1617,1618"]

Xhiliration Crop Top / Free People Skirt / Frye Boots / Vintage Bracelets

As you've probably noticed, I love mixing silhouettes and styling vibes. I'm all about that juxtaposition. This outfit is the perfect example of the mix of soft and hard, country and urban, sweet and tough. The classic bustier shape of the crop top, the cascading skirt, and moto boots clash just enough to make it cool. And the bit of Free People outfit elements against the urban landscape makes for an unexpected and fresh outfit for your next city stomp. Have a fab weekend and TGIF.

Patricia Field Vintage: Jersey / Tommy Shorts / Nike Shoes Patricia Field Original: Cuff and Spike Ring

There’s no denying the whole sport trend sticking around, and I’m all in. I loved rocking this jersey (which also kept me cool in the million degree weather) with a cleaner pair of rolled denim shorts.   These Nike tennies paired with spikey silver jewelry give it a bit of a downtown, street feel. Put it all together, and it feels fresh and a bit unexpected. Shop it all at Patricia Field today!

Patricia Field's Everlast

Patricia Field Vintage: Hockey Jacket / Everlast Tank / Mom Jeans / (my own) Calvin Klein Pumps

When you first walk into Patricia Field, there’s a crazy array of spikey jewelry, Coca Cola bottle purses, quirky sunglasses, and sequined clothing. An editorial stylist’s dream. I had always heard of this infamous store, so I was even more surprised when I walked through and discovered an epic vintage section. I got my Sail Away with Me romper, Color Me Kelly Ripa dress, and my favorite denim jacket seen here and here all for around $40 each! I hadn’t been back in a hot minute and was excited to find out there was a whole slew of new vintage just in! As you can tell, I found some gems.

This might be one of my favorite outfits I’ve shot so far. There’s something a very "cool girl” about it. Sporty but casual with a little sass. I love how each piece juxtaposes the other-- a tight tank and mom jeans, a hockey jacket and pumps. Dare to branch out and mix things up. Shop this look at more at Pat's Store (details below)!

20s Drop Me

Shareen Vintage Dress / Prabal Gurung for Target Sandals

Throw on some Frank Sinatra and I'm ready to be in full swing. I loved the very 20s silhouette of this dress with the drop waist and the pleated skirt. I'm a sucker for a shifty "sack dress" if you will, and the little details and impeccable tailoring made it that much better. A great vintage look to take you from work to your favorite speakeasy on the LES.
