Belt It

When in doubt, belt it. Seen all over the runways and streets, belting just about everything is back in action. High-waisted pants, blazers, cardigans, the belt is adding shape in unexpected places. I decided to throw one on my favorite poncho! It's still a bit oversized and cozy but also adds silhouette and texture. My key tip is to make sure your belt is thicker or detailed with braiding/studs to make it work. Shop my full look above and happy belting!

Layer It Up

The key for winter, and a New York winter at that, is layering. I started with this perfect and cozy ivory sweater over a worn-in denim shirt. It's a bit more relaxed than usual preppy combination. I switched it up once more by wearing liquid leggings (which I only suggest with longer tops...leggings do not equal pants). And finally, I threw everybody for a loop with socks and platform sandals. Sock are back on the runways again and having a major moment. These combinations add a fun element to even the simplest outfit. Shop the links above to get the look!

The Letterman

“Vintage” Letterman Jacket / Mossimo Tee / Joe’s Jeans / Grenson Loafers / Handmade Ring

I have this knack for finding hidden gems in the back of your mom’s, grandma’s, even your boyfriend’s closet. This letterman jacket was “borrowed” from my beau’s closet, and let’s just say it may be a lengthy borrow. Leather, oversized, and a sporty boyish charm... Done deal! I like to keep things really classic when I rock this jacket so I can just let it speak for itself. Here, a simple white tee and skinnies with a platform oxford give it that old school feel with a little smirk of fashion.

Vintage Jacket / Lands End Sweater / Old Navy Distressed Denim / Forever 21 Black Skinnies / Birkenstocks / Converse

With trends and styles constantly evolving, there are a few key pieces I fall back on that never seem to let me down: thick and cozy sweaters, black skinnies, and Converse. Put together or sprinkled in with other pieces "of the moment", these classics have tested time and can be styled in so many different ways. For this post, I wore them all together in a very straight forward but stylish way and then a bit more normcore with distressed/relaxed skinnies, Birks, and a vintage cocoon jacket. No matter which way you go, these are some closet staples that you definitely need!

Living Doll LA Tee / Vintage Levis / Converse

Born and raised in the nineties, I have this thing for anything vintage from the era. There's some type of rule that if you lived when the the trend first began, you're not supposed to wear it when it returns. But I say to hell with it. Wear what you want. This whole mom jean revival. Totally in. Converse, Keds, and the like. In again. So when I spotted this tee on the Living Doll site, it was a match made in heaven. Like my vibe smack right on the front of a shirt. Put the three pieces together, throw me on a fire escape with some good music, and it's like a scene of Friends or somethin'.

Overall Update

Many people have a love/hate relationship with overalls; but for me, it's all L.O.V.E. A classic revival that continues to evolve each time it creeps back and throughout the time it sticks around. If you are an a fan, mix up your typical overall look by wearing a sweater on top! A little cropped and boxy is best so you get just that peek of the bib. A bit of a roll on the bottom, white socks, and menswear inspired booties, give you a fun, streetstyle look!

Have you ever had a piece of jewelry that you absolutely love but have no clue what you would actually wear it with? Rings have always been my favorite, so when I find a gorgeous vintage one like above, I allow it to inspire me. The turquoise and western vibe of this piece immediately drew me to a fringe skirt. Paired with a snake skin clutch, cozy sweater, and pointy mule, I complete the look just from that single little ring! Naturally, I'm in love with the fact that highwaisted underwear is back. In different fabrics, textures, colors, the possibilities are endless. I opted for this gorgeous lace pair to achieve a sexier granny panty (insert laugh emoji). With a buttery soft tee, frilly socks and a rhinestone choker, there's a retro allure that ups your homey uniform. Happy weekend and girly relaxation.

Raise your hand if your loungewear uniform involves only wearing the largest sorority tshirt in your drawer paired with the lumpiest sweatpants at the bottom. Yep, that's what I thought. But seriously, ME TOO. But seriously again, I'm here to tell you that you can actually look cute without having to sacrifice the oversized and cozy goodness. By trading my sweats for super soft boyshorts and the tee for a still oversized but cool knit sweater, I go from looking slightly homeless to a bit more chic and sexy. During the winter, if I see the word thermal, that’s all I need to hear. So when I found these old-school boyish pair of undies in that perfect waffley material, it was a done deal. Highwaisted and comfy as hell, they’re my favorite lounging “short”. Second order of business: this epic, yellow button down from BumCake vintage. It makes me feel like a badass 80 year old man, sitting on a boardwalk, smoking a cigar. Think Ocean City, circa 1990. The combination of the two (with my Cosabella bralette I wear just about everyday) makes for another perfect Saturday lounge.
