Perfect Pairings

Shareen Vintage NYC Reworked Crop Top and Skirt Kat Maconie London Sandals / Jules Smith Choker

While "the Shareen" of Shareen Vintage is based in LA, I still had the pleasure of speaking with her all about her journey through fashion and love for vintage. One thing I loved hearing about was her "reworks". She wanted to find ways to connect vintage to the modern day, so she reworked the vintage items into more modern silhouettes.

The "matching separates" concept has become a huge trend over the past year or so, and I absolutely died for her reworked combo here. I spotted some of these "perfect pairs" on Shareen's instagram just before going into her Manhattan location, so I knew what was at the top of my list. It's a great way to break up any normal dress or a perhaps dated silhouette, and also the perfect transition for crop tops with just that sliver of skin. Shop this look along with other amazing pairs at Shareen!

A Girl's Dream Vintage

Shop it all at Shareen NYC

My closest friend (and vintage aficionado) has lived in both Manhattan and LA and recommended Shareen Vintage as one of her favorite stops in each city. The Manhattan store is located on the second floor of an unmarked building. As soon as you ring the buzzer and walk up the stairs, you are transported into a different world. Hardwood floors, tall ceilings, and racks for days. Shareen houses vintage, vintage reworks, bridal, and her own collection. Each piece has a feminine sensibility about it, and with a no boys allowed policy, it's like any girl’s dream. I loved trying on everything from backless evening gowns, to flirty summer dresses, to the most amazing high-waisted pants.

I’ve really been digging all things off the shoulder and this dress was perfection. With full pleating and lace detail, it effortlessly draped off my shoulders and cascaded down like a fairytale. This dress would be ideal for a spring/summer wedding or your next trip to France perhaps. Hey, a girl can dream.

On Pointe Vintage

Vintage Dress / BCBG Platforms

Growing up with a dance background, sometimes I just can't help myself by whipping out crazy poses especially when the shoes are perfect to be "on pointe".  I love the Asian vibes the shoes lend to this moomoo-ish maxi. It just so happens I found this recently in my grandmother's closet. Back in the day, she would wear it to various garden parties and casual day drinks with friends. The color is brilliant and the shape, so easy.

Safari-esque

Amarcord Vintage: 1980s Cream Trench / Matsuda Pants / Bruno Magli Heels / Gianfranco Ferre Tote

If I ever were to go on a safari, I’d think I’d have to wear something like this: a floaty trench, tied up white shirt, leather tote, and epic “balloon” pants. It all feels very Lauren Hutton 1970s to me. That being said, it’s still comfortable and wearable. The pants make a subtle statement enough that even with sandals and a white tank in the summer, you’d look chic as anything. And the trench, the bag, and the shoes are beautiful, no-brainer neutrals. You can find this and more at Amarcord today and take a step on the "wild side".

Gypsy Vibes

[gallery type="rectangular" ids="1247,1248,1251,1249,1253,1255,1258"]

Amarcord Vintage: 70s Maxi dress / Vincini Heels

Nothing like swirly patterns and loads of fabric for an amazing 70s maxi dress. Airy and floaty for my quintessential twirl, I loved the way the dress moved with me. The ruche detailing at the top was impeccable (and perfect for smaller-chested women might I add). Hand me a tambourine and call me a gypsy.

Juxtapose

Amarcord Vintage: Emporio Armani Tee / Leather Culotte Shorts / Christian Dior Belt / Chanel Pumps

I love mixing casual and elevated pieces. There's something about the juxtaposition that instantly makes the outfit "cool". This vintage Armani caught my eye immediately for a perfect graphic tee. Not the mention, what looks like a leather pleated skirt is actually culottes (which is on the rise for fall!) Pairing the graphic tee with a structured bottom and epic pump makes for nice mixing.

Speaking of epic pumps, I fell in love with these Chanel pumps when I went to Amarcord's monthly happy hour. With Prosecco and 20% off, it's bound to be a good time. Next one is June 19th at their Soho location, but you can grab this look (minus the shoes) there anytime!

Easy Breezy

Amarcord Vintage: Chanel Top / Mary McFadden Skirt / Vincini Hells

Summertime. Easy Breezy. They're really two in one. For me, summer style is all about light, breathable clothes. I fell in love with the linen-y texture of this button down that just perfect for the summer heat. Slightly oversized, it could work tied up, loose over skinny jeans, or even as a chic beach cover up. Equally as perfect is the way this skirt moves. Elegant and effortless. The two together and your easy, breezy, beautiful.

Amarcord Vintage: Guy Laroche Skirt Suit / 1950s Handbag / Chanel Heels

What I love about this outfit + the photos is how accurately it describes my "work" personality. I'm intense and I like to get it done but I also don't take myself seriously half the time. When you work in the NY fashion industry you gotta own it but also learn to laugh so you don't stress yourself into oblivion! Do what you love. Love what you do.

I fell in love with this "skirt suit" while shooting at Amarcord last week. With an editorial type feel, I love how the whole outfit makes a statement.  Branch out with the full suit or incorporate one of the pieces into to your current work wardrobe. Shop the look now at Amarcord Vintage Fashion in NYC (minus the shoes because I couldn't resist :) ).

The Store That Started It All

Amarcord Vintage:  Christian Dior Dress / Carlos Falchi Clutch / Bruno Magli Peep Toe Pumps

I remember it like it was yesterday... walking into Amarcord in Williamsburg and being greeted by the friendliest Italian man, Marco. It was like I was 5 again playing dress up with the most beautiful clothes. Marco and I basically had a whole styling session that day, and from then on, I was hooked.

Patti Bordoni and Marco Liotta started Amarcord Vintage Fashion in 2000 with a desire to bring upscale European womenswear, menswear, and accessories to the modern fashion world. With vintage pieces anywhere from the 90s back to the Victorian era, the exclusive and exquisite selection is one for the books. What I also love about Amarcord is the contagious passion for fashion you get as soon as you walk through door. Marco and his team can tell you anything and everything about each piece and assist you in envisioning and creating any outfit in the store. The knowledge and culture behind the clothes as well as the people of Amarcord make it worth going back again and again…not to mention the epic merchandise of course :)

Check out their locations in Manhattan and Williamsburg or shop online here !

Governor's Ball 2014

a vintage vice - emma sousa - gov ball1

Karen Kane Lace Tank / Handmade Polo Cutoffs / Alexander Wang Booties / Vintage Bag / Vintage Sunnies

I was beyond excited to get a last minute ticket to this year's NYC Governor's Ball Music Festival! It was a day full of amazing music, beautiful weather, good friends, and a great time. The trick with festivals is looking "cool" without looking like your trying and without being half naked like many of the teenyboppers there... My foolproof solution is always something crochet (it keeps you both ways of cool), boots or converse to keep ya feet clean, and the ever necessary 70s sunnies. Happy Festing.

La Bamba Jumpsuit

Vintage Jumpsuit ([1 if it fit properly] [2] [3 minus the belt]) similar Bertie Platforms / Jules Smith Choker / Vintage and Shashi Rings

The sunglasses, the fringe jacket, and now the jumpsuit, the Brooklyn Flea vintage vendors are doing me good! How festive and wonderfully summery is this jumpsuit, though?! (And in mint condition!) I love how the crisp, white cotton gives a nice contrast to the MC Hammer shape of it. With pops of colorful embroidery, this outfit would be great starting at the beach and ending sipping margaritas and dancing to "La Bamba".

Fashion Meets Comfort

Old Navy Dress (similar [1] [2] [3] [4]) / NY&Co Chambray Shirt (similar) / Tibi Mules / Jules Smith Choker / Vintage Gold Chain and Rings

I am all about the whole fashion meets comfort thing. When you’re working a jam-packed day or taking the city by storm for some much needed weekend shopping, you want to be comfortable but also look pulled together. A bright cotton dress, chambray around the waist, and mules take the cake. Easy. Breezy. Summerly Chic.

I don’t usually get too overexcited by jewelry but ever since I spotted the Eddie Borgo chokers on Shopbop, I have been obsessed. Thankfully, I was able to snag the Jules Smith at a more reasonable price (link above). A choker can make a statement on its own or layered with other chains, as well. As long as it’s not the stretchy black one we wore when we were 10, I think we’ll be good to go ;)

Sweet Nothings

Dahlia Lace Dress (similar (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) / Bertie Gavino Platforms (similar) / Jules Smith Choker / Vintage Rings

One of my favorite things about summertime is the ability to just throw on a dainty white dress and instantly look chic. Whether you keep it minimal, dress it up or down, easy breezy dresses (especially lace ones) are a key summer staple. I found this dress during my first trip to Topshop in London in 2011. Since then, it has been my ultimate go-to when I have a closet full of clothes and "nothing to wear". Check out the links above to find yours!

Color Me Kelly Ripa

Patricia Field Vintage Dress (similar) / Gianni Bini Heels (similar) / Jules Smith Choker

The Hamptons can be such a great people watching town... you never know who you will see. The first time I went I almost walked into Stanley Tucci and spotted Barbara Walters brunching. This year, it was Kelly Ripa. We were shooting along this little sidewalk and she walks right on by with the fam. Just as beautiful in person.

But anyways, to clothes. I snagged this number at Patricia Field's during the same shopping trip for the polkadot romper and the 80s jean jacket. Such epic finds there! I love the silhouette of this dress. It's so flattering for various shapes and sizes, and the colors are perfect for summer! This would be a great outfit for any summer event or a BBQ in the Hamptons perhaps ;)
