Rachel Comey Denim Trench, Crop Top, Shorts / Tory Burch Platforms

We're taking the Canadian Tuxedo to a whole new level. Denim brand fav with the always essential nod to the 90s, Rachel Comey comes in for the denim win as I pair denim on denim on denim. I practically fell on the floor when I discovered these drawstring denim shorts in their NYC showroom this spring. Flashback to circa 1998 when I used to rock balloon shorts that were way to big for me (and needless to say not much has changed). I added a slight roll at the bottom to get a bit more leg and an epic platform espadrille by Tory Burch for added leg length. To show off that epic waistline, I paired the shorts with a patchwork denim crop top. Topped off with probably the softest denim I've encountered, this trench if worn open displays all the details and has an awesome flow as you walk. You'll be feeling like a denim super hero. Shop the links to get my denim dream.

Sonia Rykiel Denim Top / Rachel Comey Jeans / Tory Burch Wedges

If you've been following AVV for a while, you know I'm a lover of denim. From $5 vintage cutoffs to discovering the newest denim brands all over the US, denim is one of my favorite categories. A closet staple but constantly being reinvented and reimagined, jeans in any color, shape, and form create a great palette to build your look upon.

One of my favorite silhouettes that has risen again is the relaxed, straight leg. We take the 90s version, lighten the fabric in both weight and color and create the perfect pair to match with just about anything in your closet. I was sucked in by the denim on denim addict inside me and paired these perfect straights with one of the most epic denim shirts and gold molded wedges I've ever encountered. The tonal embellishments on the top and metal sculptural quality in the shoe add just that extra bit of flair to take your denim from basic to "high street chic" in seconds. Shop the links above to get the look and stay tuned for more denim favorites!

Vintage L.L. Bean Jacket / Vintage Denim Shirt / Vintage Levi's Cutoffs / Arizona Birkenstocks / Vintage, Handmade, and

My boyfriend likes to call me "denim warrior" and for good reason. Denim is a major part of my daily wardrobe, so you can often find me in denim on denim... on denim, which of course, is where this nickname comes from. I've done a few lessons on AVV about wearing denim on denim, and here I'm going all out. And all out vintage for that matter. Some of the best vintage pieces I've found (and that I tend to wear the most) are amazing denim styles that I've found for a bargain. You can go to those high end boutiques and spend $200-$300 on vintage Levi’s OR you can go to your local thrift store or Etsy and buy them at more than a tenth the cost! I scored these vintage Levi’s cutoffs at the infamous No Relation/L Train Vintage for $7, this shirt at the Brooklyn Flea for $15, and this vintage L.L. Bean jacket at The Vintage Twin pop up shop for $65!

Now for the styling! I mixed the washes a bit, contrasted the roughness of the denim, and played with the buttoning for a peek of skin. While the pieces are oversized, the little details of pulling a back tuck on the shirt, keeping the pieces open, and that dose of skin make it fresh. Shop my look above (I found the exact jacket for you on Etsy!) and check out some of these vintage/thrift spots when you are next in NY! You’re in for a deal!

Collarless Vest / Vintage Oversized Shirt / Vintage Tommy Hilfiger Jeans / Tibi Mules

Another title for this look might've been Denim on Denim: Part II. A little more risky than my first look but worth it for anyone who's willing to try! This also plays a bit into my love for oversized. I take a crisp but oversized button down and cool it up with a collarless denim vest. This also tames the larger feel of the shirt and pairs perfectly with a straight boyfriend jean. With a clean cuff and structural mules, I elevate the look for a new take on denim on denim.

Vintage Levi's Jacket / American Apparel Sweater / Acne Jeans / 3.1 Phillip Lim Flats (here or here) /  Vintage Calfhair Bag

Denim on denim can be a scary trend for some people to wrap their heads around. My go-to tip is to contrast your denim washes and (you guessed it) proportions. In my outfit above, I’ve mixed white skinnies and a boxy, light wash jacket, naturally lending itself to a bit of 90s vibe. Paired with a pop of a cobalt sweater, pointy flats to elongate the leg, and my new and favorite haircalf clutch, the outfit comes full circle. Shop my look about to dip your foot into the denim on denim pond.
