Sunshine and Flamingos

Wildfox Swimsuit / Vintage Sunnies (similar)
There's something about summertime that just livens everyone's spirits. Whether it's the extra dose of vitamin d or the excuse to wear denim cutoffs everyday, you can tell the people in the streets (or the beach for that matter) are happier.
With summer comes the search for that perfect, new bathingsuit. I always gravitate towards high-waisted bikinis, but recently, I have been on the look out for an amazing one piece. This flamingo number by Wildfox instantly spoke to me. It's fun, quirky, summery, and puts a smile on your face. After Wildfox's show at Miami Swim Week yesterday, I can't wait to see what's in the next batch, too!

#3: Vintage swimwear/ Canvas tote/ Pieces white shoes/ Vince Camuto sunglasses
No matter what your plans this holiday weekend, I've got you covered. Class it up with a full, high-waisted, midi skirt and structured crop. Keep the palette neutral and add a pop of color in your clutch. Festive without the overkill. Or if you're headed to BK, get a little crafty. Make (or buy) these American flag shorts, add your favorite basics, an epic platform, and you're set for a full day of fun. Last but not least, if you are headed for a much needed beach day, bring a 50s vibe with a high-waisted bikini, retro sunnies, and a classic striped tote. Throw on a more modern but simple shoe to keep the whole outfit very "now". Shop it all through the links above and have an amazingly fashionable weekend!

Amarcord Vintage: Christian Dior Dress / Carlos Falchi Clutch / Bruno Magli Peep Toe Pumps
I remember it like it was yesterday... walking into Amarcord in Williamsburg and being greeted by the friendliest Italian man, Marco. It was like I was 5 again playing dress up with the most beautiful clothes. Marco and I basically had a whole styling session that day, and from then on, I was hooked.
Patti Bordoni and Marco Liotta started Amarcord Vintage Fashion in 2000 with a desire to bring upscale European womenswear, menswear, and accessories to the modern fashion world. With vintage pieces anywhere from the 90s back to the Victorian era, the exclusive and exquisite selection is one for the books. What I also love about Amarcord is the contagious passion for fashion you get as soon as you walk through door. Marco and his team can tell you anything and everything about each piece and assist you in envisioning and creating any outfit in the store. The knowledge and culture behind the clothes as well as the people of Amarcord make it worth going back again and again…not to mention the epic merchandise of course :)
Check out their locations in Manhattan and Williamsburg or shop online here !

I discovered so many great things in both Manhattan and Brooklyn that you need to put to the top of your list! Ditch Times Square, the antithesis of all things truly New York, and immerse yourself in the best parts of this wonderful city! More info and links included below :)
Manhattan Drinks/Eats:
- The Robert-- breathtaking view overlooks Columbus Circle and Central Park
- Buvette-- amazing french eatery in the West Village
Brooklyn Drinks/Eats:
- Buttermilk Channel-- hands down best brunch I have ever had!
- The Red Hook Winery-- tastings galore
Manhattan Events:
- American Ballet Theater-- give you chill bumps dancing at Don Quixote
- Charles James Exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art-- beautiful technique and construction of couture evening dresses of the 1940s
- The Guggenheim-- amazing architecture and design
- The Bill Cunningham Facades Exhibit at the New York Historical Society-- a fashion photo diary through the "decades" shot all over Manhattan by the wonderful Bill Cunningham
Brooklyn Events:
- The Brooklyn Flea Market-- great vintage fashion finds including 2 pairs of sunnies, my fringe jacket, and gorgeous jumpsuit that will be coming soon on the blog!

Style Me Pop Art

The "pop art" trend is such a fun one to incorporate into your spring/summer wardrobe. Whether you bring hints of it in accessories like I did in Girly Tomboy or in a full outfit like above, the prints and bright colors are bound to put a spring in your step! This outfit is also a great example of how fashion can reflect your personality and/or affect your mood. I was very tired the morning this was shot, and as you can tell, this outfit paired with the Wonka-like sunglasses brought me back to life! Live. Love. Fashion. ;)

Tennis Sweater Twirl

All Similar Links :) Vintage Sweater Vest / Forever 21 Skirt / Target Wedges / Vintage Sunnies
Tennis Sweater Twirl AKA Granny Chic AKA Headed to the Hamptons. Whatever I'm calling this outfit, it's fun, quirky, and vintage street style. I love mixing prints and colors that may seem a little off at first and then just grow on you. I discovered this sweater vest, yet again, in my mother's closet-- just another reason for your to go raid yours! The subtle print has a nod to the athletic inspired trend I love to work. I would also pair this sweater with high-waist skinny jeans or over a shifty slip dress in a very mod fashion.
ALSO NOTE: Everything purchased in this outfit is under $40! Being a bargain shopper most of my life has given me this little knack for being able to monetize every outfit I wear! I also try and link to similar price points so that you can snag some fashion finds for yourself! Hope this post is a fun start to your Friday!

Vintage Nike Track Jacket (similar) / American Apparel Crop Top and Denim Skirt / Converse / Vintage Jewelry
Finally did it - made the gif! During this shoot, I had the urge to "run down the runway" Alexander Wang style. The moving photos turned out pretty cool, and I felt like I was in one of those Target ads. Animation aside, this outfit is just another example of why you should never get rid of items that are currently not in style. I bought this vintage Nike track jacket about 10 years ago and what do you know it's 2014 and they're so hot right now. Other than the fact that the colors are brilliant, I love how I can wear this jacket with virtually anything! It elevates even the simplest jeans and tshirt and cools up a girly skirt and crop top like above. I would obviously suggest searching for vintage but there are some great modern track/baseball jackets all over and at all price points, too!

Sneak Peek
Discovering the LES
One of my favorite parts of friends coming to visit is the excuse to explore new things you usually don't make time for and also the chance to show off the best parts of NYC (which doesn't include Times Square). The Lower East Side (LES) is one of my recent favorites! Full of amazing shops, restaurants, and art, LES is a cultural haven and great spot for people watching, too ;) This past weekend my hometown friend and I explored the LES on a beautiful and sunny Saturday. We started at the Hester Street Fair. With a similar nod to the Brooklyn Flea, it had some wonderful pop-up vintage boutiques and mini eateries. We next traveled up and stopped into a few different consignment and vintage shops, namely Edith Machinist, known for its epic, vintage accessories. Our last stop was farther up into the East Village for a late lunch. Veselka (namely visited in Gossip Girl) , is a Ukrainian restaurant known for its pierogies. Most unique and delicious food I've had in a while! Check out the links above and the clip/photos below and venture to the Lower East Side on your next visit!

The photos above encompass a variety of decades, locations, people, and dress that instantly take me in and inspire me to learn more about what lies behind the photo (and the clothes). I may be beating a dead horse, but talk about the cyclical nature of fashion! These vintage photos highlight exactly what I want to wear for the warmer months ahead... (click the links below to see some of my current favs)
- Wide brim hats
- Cat eye sunglasses
- Bright, one-piece bathing suits
- High-waisted anything and bralettes
